Homeschooling

Homeschooling equips our children with a broad range of skills, a well-rounded education and a love of learning. They see the world past, present and future as God's handiwork and their faith motivates them to action.

Mission Statement

We believe homeschooling to be the best choice for our family because:

  • Learning will be experiential. Especially in younger grades, we will facilitate "hands-on" learning wherever possible. We believe that things discovered are learned more thoroughly than things demonstrated.

  • We will produce independent learners. Our plan of education will seek to "facilitate" rather than "dictate". Our children will learn to love learning and will eventually set goals for themselves.

  • Knowledge is superior to data. Our children will be taught to truly understand, rather than to simply memorize data.

  • Wisdom is superior to knowledge. Our children will be taught to use the knowledge they have acquired in appropriate and beneficial ways.

  • We encourage excellence, but diligence and perseverance more so. Our children will be "optimistic" in their learning, "trying again" in the face of difficulty or lack of immediate success.

  • Learning will be done "in context". Connection between events and concepts will be brought into focus as this ensures knowledge will be remembered and relevant.

  • Education will be "faith-friendly". As opposed to public schools where all religions must be equally valued and as a result are seen as equally worthless, our children will be taught from a Christian viewpoint. They will understand why we believe as we do, and learn still to respect those with whom we disagree.

  • Our children will put their faith into action in the world. Increased control of our time as well as emphasis in the curriculum on putting faith into action will accomplish this end.

  • Each person is valuable and bestowed with God-given gifts. Therefore, a single "cookie-cutter" approach will not suit our needs. Instead, our children will be educated with specific regard to their individual strengths and weaknesses.

  • We will celebrate uniqueness. We will look for our children's individual talents and seek to develop them for the glory of God and their own personal sense of accomplishment.
